What is prophecy?

“Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy…but everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort.” (I Corinthians 14:1,3)

Why do we have speaking in tongues and interpretation of tongues in the church?

“Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good…to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.” (I Corinthians 12:7,10)

“Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers: prophecy, however, is for believers, not for unbelievers.” (I Corinthians 14:22)

Why do we sing in tongues and in English?

“For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.” (I Corinthians 14:14-15)

“Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord..” (Ephesians 5:19)

Why do we stand to sing?

“…We will stand in your presence before this temple that bears your Name and will cry out to you in our distress, and you will hear us and save us…then some Levites from the Kohathites and Korahites stood up and praised the Lord, the God of Israel, with very loud voice.” (2 Chronicles 20:9,19)

Why do we lift our hands?

“I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.” (Psalm 63:4)

"Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the Lord.” (Psalm 134:2)

“I spread out my hands to you; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land.” (Psalm 143:6)

Why does the whole church pray at once for specific needs?

“When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. ‘Sovereign Lord,’ they said, ‘you make the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything in them’.” (Acts 4:24)

Why do we have audible praise unto God?

“Shout with joy to God…” (Psalm 66:1)

“…Let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.” (Psalm 95:1)

“Shout for joy to the Lord…shout for joy before the Lord, the King.” (Psalm 98:4,6)

"Shout for joy to the Lord…” (Psalm 100:1)
